Dear Parents,
Graded papers and a progress report went home today
with your child. Please sign the progress report (white
copy) and send it back to me Monday. Also, individual
school pictures will be taken Monday morning. Your child
may not want to have his picture taken in the school
uniform shirt. He may wear his "favorite",
colorful shirt for this special occasion.
Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents,
All graded papers have been posted to mygradebook.com,
and you can check your child's progress for this week
(and weeks past). Several parents have been confused by
the grades that first come up when you log on. If you
click on "assignments" it will list tests by
subject and dates recorded. I hope this helps with the
understanding this new system.
Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents,
I sent graded papers home this Friday. Be sure to ask to
see them. They are stapled together with a
"heavy-duty staple" and are listed from lowest
grades to highest. There are about 10 tests in the
stack.
Be advised that there are two tests that will be given
Tuesday upon the class's return...a language and science
test. The language test is over the
Helping/Being/Linking Verbs found on p. 10 of their
language book. We've been drilling them all week, and
the class should do well on the test. The science test
is over the questions found on p. 31 of their science
book. This page contain the breakdown of the parts of a
flower that they must know. I told the class at the end
of the day to be sure and take their science and
language books home to study. I hope they remembered.
Also, I plan to have all the class's grades posted by
Sunday should you want to log on to mygradebook.com and
see how your child is doing.
Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents, Here are some things of interest.
1. You may check your child's grades on
mygradebook.com starting this Monday afternoon. You
will need the class password (0809 Sixth Grade) and a
personal password your child has chosen to check the
grades.
2. I keep the room cool and many of the students will
want to bring something to put on their arms to stay
comfortable. They may leave sweaters, coats, etc. on
the back of their desks all year long.
3. There will be a test in each major subject weekly
from this point on. These subject tests will fall on
the same day of the week throughout the year with the
exception of math and partial weeks (4 day weeks,
etc.). For example:Monday usually has no tests;
Tuesday has Language & Science; Wednesday has
Geo./Hi.; Thursday has none; and Friday has Bible,
Spelling, and Reading.
4. Graded papers will go home on Fridays. They do not
need to be returned.
5. The week's assignments and other school information
can be found on our web page at ccs-pc.net.
6. Progress reports will be sent home halfway through
each nine weeks.
7. Each child is to copy the day's assignments on
their steno pads. All work in class that is not
completed becomes homework. Because lesson plans
(emailed to you on weekends) are hopeful plans, the
steno pad assignments may not always agree with them
as they may contain adjustments. Always go by the
steno pads if the two are in conflict. Over the next
week or two, both the steno pad and lesson plans
should become more and more in agreement as we are
able to accomplish our goals.
8. Feel free to join us at lunch any day.
9. Please go through the office to get your child
during the school day. Do not come to the classroom.
All children must be signed out in the office by a
parent or approved adult when leaving.
10. Music, PE, and Computer will be taught to your
child as a special area activity and will be in other
areas of the school rather than our classroom. PE will
be held every day for sixth graders.
11. We use cursive only in the sixth grade...no
printing.
12. On spelling tests, the word must be written
correctly with the proper cursive letters or it will
be marked incorrect even though the child can spell
the word orally. This week I learned that many of the
students are forming letters incorrectly. I have
placed the cursive alphabet on the wall, and the
students may glance up at it for help during the test.
By the way, i's not dotted and t's not crossed are
marked incorrect.
13. The workbook pages in spelling constitute 50% of
their spelling grade. The students need to be in the
habit of doing those pages weekly.
14. Grades are figured as follows: Tests (60%);
Quizzes (30%); daily work (10%).
15. Be sure to check your email regularly as I will be
sending your information throughout the year on a
consistent basis.
16. School begins at 7:55; the tardy bell rings at
8:00. The gym opens for students who arrive early at
7:30. If we have poor weather (rain, too cold, etc.)
the students go to the gym before school...not the
classroom.
17.Cell Phones are to be turned off during school
hours (7:55-3:15). Parents, if you need to contact
your child, call the office and they will relay any
messages or call your child to the office to speak
with you.
18. Please use permanent ink to mark all
belongings...especially PE clothes, coats, sweater,
books, lunch boxes, etc. Lost & Found overflows
with children's belongings because we have no idea who
the owners may be. By the way, Lost & Found items
are placed in a blue trunk in the gym by the
bathrooms.
19. All written excuses for tardies and absences are
to be sent to me...not the office.
20. Remember, I am desperately in need of a room
mother.
Thank you, Mr. Melvin 215-0590
