Missionary Speakers
In January or February of each year, Covenant
Presbyterian Church has an annual missions conference
with veteran missionaries visiting and sharing about
their work. From time to time we have believers from
other nations visit as well. CCS always takes advantage
of such opportunities to have them speak in chapel and
many of our classrooms. This not only brings the rich
flavor of the cultures of the world before the students,
it also offers a challenge to consider a missionary
calling of their own. If we have sufficient advanced
notice, we are always happy to have missionaries who are
visiting other churches where Covenant students attend
to come and share with us as well. Contact Pastor Hayes
with such requests at 769-7448 x33.
Mission Guatemala
During Spring Break of 2003, 21 CCS High School
students plus adults traveled to Guatemala on a
short-term mission trip. During this time the students
presented the Gospel through a mime and all involved
help construct a home for a very poor widow. Many in the
school helped raise the funds to buy the materials for
the construction. This mission trip and Covenant School
were highlighted in the October/November 2003 issue of
Christian Home & School (page 7). We hope to repeat such
an event in the future.
Morning Star Christian School (Mutungu, Uganda)
In January 2006, Pastor Bob Hayes
visited Mutungu, Uganda where Pastor Sam Kisembo had
started Morning Star Christian School in an area where
no school had previously existed leaving little hope for
the children of the area. Pastor Sam was able to secure
some land and the structure had a roof but no walls.
Pastor Sam and some helpers put up bamboo walls to
define classrooms. Government officials said this was
not acceptable and the temporary walls had to be
replaced with wooden planks.
Pastor Hayes brought this project to CCS during Easter
of 2006 with a goal to raise $700 for the walls. CCS
raised over $1,000 for this sister Christian school in
the third world and you can see brick walls are going
up, making this a permanent structure.
Mission Uganda
During Spring Break of 2008, 4 students and
two adults traveled to Mabaale, Uganda on a short-term
mission trip. The group shared in Ugandan churches,
schools, open air campaigns, and one on one during the
week in Uganda. CCS is committed to trips such as
Guatemala and Uganda during Spring Break of any year.
Bob Hayes and CCS administrative officials are happy to
work with student groups at the beginning of each school
year for Spring Break.
Net a Mosquito
During Christmas, 2004, CCS students learned
that over 100,000 people die each year in Uganda from
malaria which is spread by mosquitoes. The simple act of
sleeping under a mosquito net helps reduce a person's
risk significantly. However, a net is more than a months
wages for many Ugandan families, and impossible for
orphans. So for one of our Christmas projects, we joined
the efforts of other schools an helped purchase enough
nets for over 200 orphans.
Panama City Rescue Mission
From time to time the students at CCS
collect food items and other supplies for the Rescue
Mission. Also, from time to time CCS High School
students help conduct the Rescue Mission Chapel service.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is the "shoe box"
ministry of Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse. Each
Christmas, Christian families are asked to fill at least
one shoebox with items for children in the third world.
Many CCS classes participated in this effort as did some
CCS families and also families in Covenant Church.
Complete shoebox details can be found at
Operation Christmas Child.
Covenant Christian School is a ministry of
