CCS Music Instructor: Mrs. Keel
This year will be an exciting time in music! Once again
the sound of children’s voices will be lifted into the
ceilings of Covenant! The K5 – 2nd graders will be
focusing on rhythm, singing in unison with one another
and playing boomwhackers! I will also be giving some
worksheets with a little focus in music theory. 3rd and
4th graders will be learning to play the flutophones/recorders.
Each student will have a flutophone with a book. I
believe students have a better focus of music when they
have hands on, especially for this age group. The 5th
Graders will be learning how to read music as they begin
singing in harmony.
Middle school students will have a music appreciation
class which will better enhance their learning of
composers, music theory, music history and some
sight-singing. High school students taking music as an
elective will learn in depth music theory with their
being the highlight of each student writing his/her own
music.
Praise team will have after school rehearsals on
Wednesdays in the sanctuary. Praise team is a
student-led group who leads music during the MS/HS
chapel every Thursday. There will be try-outs for this
group – all HS students who are interested may try-out.
This includes grades 9th – 12th. I want to give every
opportunity to each student who feels spiritually led to
be a part of this group.
I am very enthusiastic about this coming school year in
music! I pray that your child will receive a blessing
from “the song Jesus puts in their heart”!
