We believe that God has given us our commission in Colossians 3:23 "Whatsoever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord and not unto men." It is our prayer that through our teaching and training we will enable you to develop your gifts and use them to "Glorify God and enjoy Him forever."

Praise ye the Lord...Let them praise His name with the timbrel and dance... Psalm 150

Class Levels
Covenant dance program reserves the right to determine the class level for every student through its evaluation procedures, regardless of prior, recent, or current training.

Current Students
Our teachers determine the readiness of each student to advance. Advancement will occur on an individual basis when the progress of the individual student has warranted moving to the next level technically, spiritually, intellectually and emotionally.

Performance Opportunities
The annual spring performance is held the second Saturday in May. This takes place at the Martin Theater. Please place Saturday, May 13, 2006, on your calendars now! Some classes are given the opportunity to occasionally dance in the chapel services for the students and faculty of Covenant Christian School. >

Attendance
K3, K4, and K5 students who attend Covenant Christian School are picked up by their teacher at the end of the school session. The teacher will help them change into dance-wear and escort them to the ballet studio. At the end of class, she will escort them down the stairs where you may pick them up at the end of the walkway. If you prefer to pick them up yourself at the studio door, please be aware that school is in session. We ask that you be very quiet and not allow younger children to play in the hallway, or attempt to keep babies there. Covenant students that are not picked up are redressed and signed into aftercare. We encourage you to stress the importance of not missing classes unless there is a real emergency or sickness. Consistent class attendance is important. The progress of the entire class is hindered when a lesson must be stopped to re-teach what was missed by the absent student. We have found that when a student feels a lack of confidence in their class work because of inadequate preparation, they become discouraged with their dancing in general.

Parent/Teacher consultation
Due to the lack of private space on the dance premises, telephone conferences are preferred over appointments. The teachers have very little time before, during or after classes. They need to stay focused and warm for their next class. We do, however, love your greetings and brief exchanges.

Your calls are not a bother to us. You may call anytime with a question or concern.

Parent Observation
Visitors classes are held in the fall. The date will be the week of November 7th - 9th.

Dress Code
A dancer’s attire greatly determines the attitude toward his / her work and we require that the standard of appropriate neatness be observed at all times. The teacher may not allow class participation by a student who regularly neglects this requirement. Simply paying tuition does not guarantee participation in class by a student. We realize that anyone can forget their dance bag from time to time. On these occasions we prefer that you attend class anyway, rather than miss. Habitually forgetful students, however, are indicating to their teachers that dance is not very important to them.

No underwear should be worn under tights. It is highly immodest to walk around the facility with underwear in plain view. The only exceptions to this rule are K3, K4 and K5 classes at which the teacher helps to change the student’s clothing. To support the parental teaching that no one outside of a close family member should attempt to remove the child’s underwear, we allow them to be worn. The other exception is in the lower grades where the class changes together in a designated changing area. If these children decide to remove their underwear, we encourage them to do so privately in a bathroom stall.

With respect to the fact that Covenant is a church, we ask for leotard styles that reflect modesty. For jazz class, leotards and tights or jazz pants worn over a leotard are preferred. A close fitting tank top is acceptable. Biker length unitards or shorts are fine. Please avoid baggy clothes. Everyday capri or shorts outfits are not dance attire. Students who have a ballet class following a jazz class must have their ballet attire on during jazz or be prepared for a quick change. Jazz attire is appropriate only for jazz class.

Hair
Ballet: 1st-4th grade ballet students who attend CCS should keep a hairbrush and rubber band in their dance bag. Because they come directly from school, we do not require a bun, but we do request that hair be pulled into a ponytail away from the face. Students who do not attend CCS are expected to wear a bun, as are CCS school students 5th grade and higher.
Jazz: Jazz dancers should wear their hair in a ponytail or bun.
